There were so many names and faces at the Junos this year that I actually knew, recognized, and liked as PEOPLE…that it ALMOST felt like the face of this awards ceremony was changing to recognize what we’ve known for our short 10 years; Phog holds Canada’s best original touring musicians who are not only national treasures, but world-class acts (in some cases).

Seeing bands like Rah Rah, The Darcys, The Strumbellas, Basia Bulat, Royal Canoe and a few other familiar faces made the event somewhat significant to those of us in the grassroots of the Canadian music industry.

Of course, the silliest part of this is seeing bands like Arcade Fire taking home awards in categories that some of these familiar faces are competing. Two different worlds, entirely.

The real reason I posted this was to CELEBRATE that someone we’ve hosted at Phog actually won a Juno last night. Justin Rutledge was winner of the “ROOTS & TRADITIONAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: SOLO” category. He’s a stand-up dude, very humble and friendly, and willing to have played Phog a handful of years ago.

Which performer that is currently on Phog’s calendar is most likely to win a Juno next year?
